Page formatting |
In this section we will introduce basic page formatting.
TEXT:
The editor looks and works like a word processor. You can simply type your text inside the editor's content pane and use the icons to format the selected text. Standard text manipulations such as re-sizing, changing colour, alignment, justification, font, etc are all available. See the icons at the top of the page. All you have to do is to select/highlight the text (always from left to right) then click on one of the text formatting icons at the top.
IMAGES:
DOCUMENT LINKS:
There are two basic operations on images: Resizing and alignment. To resize an image manually simply click on it once and the resizing handles will be displayed. You can click and hold to grab and drag one of these handles to resize the image. Try to keep the original aspect ratio while resizing this way otherwise the image will look warped. To resize using the image-properies pane (shown on the left) either double click on the image or single click and then click on icon at the top. The image-properties pane will pop up. You can then lock the aspect ratio by clicking on the lock icon and then enter any value to either the width or height area. The ratio will be automatically adjusted. If you want to load the original image just click on the curved-arrow next to the lock icon. Aligning images. First decide if you want any text to wrap around or not. If you do want to wrap text around the image, first decide if your image should be positioned to the left or the right of the page. Bring up the image-properties pane by either double clicking on the image or single clicking and then clicking on icon at the top. The image-properties pane will pop up. Enter a pixel value for horizantal and vertical space around the image. A value of 10 (pixels) is ideal. Then select an alignment value (right or left) and click OK. Now the image will align itself to the left or right and the text will wrap around it. If you don't want to wrap any text around the image you can select/highlight the image or the whole area where the image is and click on one of the justification icons ( ) at the top. The image will be positioned accordingly. You can change the name of a document link, but it is important to maintain the integrity of the link. As a default the document links are inserted with the file name wrapped inside hyphens like this -This is a document.pdf- This text can be changed, but you must follow this process to make sure that the underlying link is not lost: Example:The original document link -This is a document.pdf- Stage one: Change the text inside the hyphens: -Newsletter April 2013- Stage two: Delete the wrapping hypens Newsletter April 2013 |
Copying and pasting |
The editor allows copying and pasting from any document or web page, but this has to be carried out very carefully.
When a document, or part of a document, is copied and pasted the underlying codes are also copied and pasted.
These underlying codes can interfere with formatting the page.
The recommended way of copying has 4 stages:
Stage 1: Copy from a document or web page by selecting/highlighting. Stage 2: Paste selection to a simple text editor such as Notepad. (Do not copy to a word processor (eg word for windows, google docs etc) or rich text editor) Stage 3: Copy from the simple text editor. Stage 4: Paste to the the editor and re-format as described in the 'Page formatting' section above. |
